Power window & regulator repair
A window stuck down is a security problem and a weather problem the same night. Most of these are a one-visit fix.
The short version
If your window will not go up, fell into the door, or grinds and stops, the problem is usually the regulator or the motor, not the glass. We diagnose which one it is and replace it at our McLean shop.
What this includes
- Diagnosis first: motor, regulator, switch, or wiring
- Door trim off and back on properly, with the clips and the vapour barrier intact
- Glass reseated square in the track so it stops sealing crooked
- Window tested through the full travel before you leave
- Shop work at our McLean location, since the door has to come apart
We tell you if it is the mechanism or the glass
These two problems feel the same from the driver's seat. A window that drops into the door is almost always the regulator; a window that shattered is glass. We check before we quote, so you are not paying for a part that was never broken.
Insurance usually does not cover this one
Comprehensive covers broken glass. A worn-out window motor is a mechanical failure, which is normally not a claim. We will say so up front rather than let you file and find out.

Quick questions
Power Windows, answered
- My window fell down inside the door. What broke?
- Almost always the regulator, the scissor or cable mechanism that raises the glass. The glass itself is usually fine and gets reused.
- Can you do this at my house?
- No. The door panel has to come off and the glass has to be set in the track, which needs a shop. Bring it to our McLean location.
- How do I know if it is the switch instead?
- If the window works from the driver's master switch but not its own, it is usually the switch. We test both before replacing anything.
