Sunroof & moonroof glass repair

A sunroof is a glass panel, a track, a motor, and four drain tubes. Most of the calls we get are the drains.

The short version

Cracked sunroof glass, a panel that will not slide, or water dripping onto the headliner. We replace the glass and fix what is actually causing it, at our McLean shop.

What this includes

  • Glass matched to your exact roof, tinted and laminated as the car came
  • Track and slider checked so a new panel does not jam like the old one
  • Drain tubes cleared, the usual real cause of a wet headliner
  • Seal replaced, not just re-squashed
  • Tested wet and dry before you get it back

A leaking sunroof is usually not the glass

Four drain tubes run from the sunroof tray down through the pillars. When they clog with pollen and grit, the tray overflows into the headliner and it looks exactly like a failed seal. We check the drains first, because clearing them is far cheaper than replacing a panel that was never broken.

We tell you when it is not worth it

On some older cars the motor and track cost more than the roof is worth to fix. If we think you are better off sealing it shut or leaving it, we will say that instead of quoting the big job.

Quick questions

Sunroof Glass, answered

Water is dripping on my head. Is the seal gone?
Usually not. Clogged drain tubes are the common cause, and clearing them is a much smaller job than a new panel or seal. We check the drains before quoting anything else.
My sunroof stops halfway. Can that be fixed?
Often yes. It is usually debris in the track or a worn slider rather than the motor. We diagnose before replacing parts.
Is sunroof glass the same as a windshield?
No. Sunroof panels are usually tempered or laminated tinted glass cut for your exact roof, so it is ordered to your vehicle rather than pulled off a shelf.
